Solitary species found over a variety of bottoms, feeding on small fish, molluscs and crustaceans, of little sporting value. Distribution Eastern Atlantic, rarely as far north as the British Isles, also Mediterranean.
Mottled orange red and white colouration, white ventrally, with distinctive spots on fins. Spiny dorsal fin.
