Small solitary species of little angling importance, found throughout Eastern Atlantic as far north as the British Isles, also Mediterranean and Black Sea. Feeds on a variety of small life forms, usually frequenting broken, rocky ground.
Colouration reddish brown, lighter ventrally with distinctive spots on fins.
