A smaller species of ray, only growing to approximately 75 cms, the female being the larger fish. Relatively uncommon and not a commercial species, it is found primarily in the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic.
Oviparous and feeds on small fish and crustaceans over muddy and sandy bottoms.
Dorsally pale brown in colour with cream and dark brown marbelling, the underside being white to grey.
