Found over sandy and gravel bottoms, usually close to the coast, feeding on small fish and crustaceans. Well spread in eastern Atlantic, from Canary Islands southwards and into the Mediterranean.
Body distinctly round in shape, colouration varying from grey to light brown, pale below. Grows to a large size, up to 85 kgs.
