The golden grey mullet (Mugil auratus risso)
is the least abundant of the Northern European grey mullets, probably breeding only south of the Bay of Biscay, it frequents harbours and river mouths feeding primarily on algae and bottom detritus.
Typical mullet shaped body, grey blue above, silvery sides with lengthwise stripes. Conspicuous golden spot on cheek and gill cover, and narrow upper lip.
