The impressive Horse-eye jack, Caranx latus, reaches up to 101 cm in length weighing a maximum of 13.4 kg. This fish has 8-9 dorsal spines, 20-22 dorsal soft rays, 2-3 anal spines, 16-17 anal soft rays. There are no spots on the pectoral fins. They may have a small spot on the gill cover. The scutes (bony plates) tend to be dusky or blackish; caudal fin is yellow. The young have broad blackish bars on the body.
Whilst the horse-eye-jack inhabits mainly the western atlantic it has been found in the eastern atlantic off the coast of Africa. It feeds on fishes, shrimps, and other invertebrates
