Hake or merluccius merlucciusare found usually between 70 and 400 metres, they live close to the bottom during the day but off bottom at night. It populates the eastern atlantic ocean from Norway and Iceland southward as far as Mauritania. It can also be found in the Mediterraen and Black Seas.The Hake can be identified by its long and slender body and large head.
The spawning period of hake is very long and varies depending upon where the fish are, earlier around north africa and the Mediterranean, later in the northern atlantic.Adult Hake feed mainly on fish (small hakes, anchovies, pilchard, herrings, cod fishes and sardines) the young however feed mainly on crustaceans. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
