Medium sized species of sea bream, found in the Eastern Atlantic from Bay of Biscay to South Africa, also Mediterranean and Black Sea. Primarily silver/white colouration with dark patch at base of tail fin, also dark edging to rear dorsal and tail fins.
Normally found in shallow coastal areas of rocky ground feeding on a variety of small life forms, particularly shellfish.
