Gilthead Bream (Sparus Aurata) is a shallow water species of bream living over sand or mud, and can tolerate brackish conditions in river estuaries, but migrates to deeper water to spawn in winter. Rare in northern European waters. Feeds predominantly on molluscs and crustaceans.
Colouration – Back dark grey-blue, sides and belly silver, with edge of gillcover scarlet. Bright golden stripe runs across forehead between eyes.
